This Week In Trailers XVII

Geek film overload this week, and they are mostly all pretty decent looking. First up we have the cool looking trailer for Watchmen which is airing in front of The Dark Knight right now. Next is the short but sweet teaser for Terminator Salvation, followed by the full trailer for Frank Miller’s The Spirit, and finally Ridley Scott’s Body of Lies.

Watchmen

I have never read the Watchman graphic novel, or actually heard about it until this movie but it looks pretty awesome. There were a couple not-quite-as-cool scenes in the trailer – like the ship coming out of the water which I think was supposed to be awesome – but overall it has me pretty excited. It looks sort of like if Frank Miller did a Fantastic Four film.

Terminator Salvation

It’s a teaser so you don’t really get much, but it definetly pumped my outlook from intrigued to above average levels of excitement. I really like the build up to the theme song, which definetly made the teaser something far above average. I also think Bale is perfect for this role, and from what I can see, the film is not all bleak, dark, gritty landscapes which should be a nice change for the franchise.

The Spirit

I’m torn here, on the one hand this film has a wicked cast and the dialogue and direction look pretty awesome, but on the other hand I still don’t know if I like the visual style, and the shot where Spirit falls out of the mouth, and the floating blue silk shot both just look dumb. I guess I’ll have to wait and see but there is a pretty good chance I’ll see this in theaters.

Body of Lies

Leo is a phenomenal actor, as is Russel Crowe, and Ridley Scott is amazing as well so it’s going to be hard for me not to look forward to this film. Of course I won’t be going out of my way to catch news about it – or extra trailers – but I will make a point of seeing it when it comes out. Also it looks like it might be about spies which is always a plus.
