This Week in Trailers VIII
Not the best bunch this time, with only two that look promising. First up we have yet another Mummy movie; did we really need another? I didn’t even see the second but I heard it was bad. Next we have City of Ember which is one of the aforementioned two that could be decent. Then there is Traitor with Don Cheadle which makes up the latter of the duo. And we finish off with the second X-Files movie and Josh Hartnett in August.
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
For as many positive thoughts that I harbor for Jet Li, there is an equal amount of negative for Brendan Fraser. This movie looks pretty horrible. Bad writing, atrocious line delivery on Fraser’s part, and all around bad vibes. I don’t see myself watching this movie.
City of Ember
This looks like a steampunk National Treasure (with survival as the prize instead of some priceless items) and that sounds right up my alley. Not to mention the cast is pretty decent and the visual style looks great. Of course the movie could dissapoint if they dumb it down too much for young audiences, but even then I’m sure I will still enjoy it.
Traitor
Decent plot and Don Cheadle make this one to look out for. I like the intrigue of not knowing for sure which side Cheadle is actually on and I hope they don’t ruin that by making it too obvious to the viewer early on. It’s not one of those trailers where I instantly look forward to the film but its interesting looking so I’ll probably end up seeing it.
The X-Files: I Want to Believe
I never really liked the X-Files, and subsequently never saw the first film. I have no interest in seeing this second installment but due to the nature of the franchise I’m sure that there will still be flocks of people who can’t wait to catch it when it is released.
August
The movie itself looks boring and overall pretty bad but I like Josh Hartnett ever since he broke away from all those romantic comedies and started flexing his acting muscles. Then there is the fact that David Bowie makes an appearance, and he is always extremely hard to pass up. With that in mind I still don’t think this movie will be worth it.
