This Week in Trailers III

Due to the ridiculous amount of new trailers this week (both leaked and official), I’ve decided to make this more of a “Trailers of the week that look interesting”. Hopefully it’s still just as enjoyable. As for what I’ve included, we have 2 leaked trailers, American Teen and Lakeview Terrace. As well as Official trailers for The Fall and Tropic Thunder.

American Teen

This is an interesting looking documentary that I have had my eye on since it premiered at Sundance. It seems to play out more like a narrative than a traditional documentary which is cool, and the teens themselves all look to be interesting enough to warrant a watch. I can see myself enjoying this, even though the trailer makes it seem really awkward which I have trouble watching.

Lakeview Terrace

I’m not positive on this movie, mostly because the thriller genre is not one of my favorites. There are many exceptions, though they all tend to have some type of interesting twist or excellent writing. We will just have to see how this plays out but as it stand the trailer does little to make me want to see it. They spent maybe a bit too much time playing up the crazy Sam Jackson and not enough time with scenes of the couple going to “war” which I think would have made it much better.

The Fall

This looks very good, especially since it feels almost exactly like a Pan’s Labyrinth type film which I loved. I was actually really surprised to find that Guillermo del toro did not direct this since it seems exactly like something he would do. I love the style, I love the premise, and apart from cringing slightly when Darwin was mentioned (not because of Darwin himself but because of the odd inclusion of his name in a group of otherwise nameless characters). Also, at one point the masked guy looked like Alan Cumming which has no correlation with…anything really but I thought it interesting enough to include.

Tropic Thunder

There was some people who think this movie is insensitive to have Robert Downey jr. as a black guy. I’m not one of them; it’s not like it’s derogatory, they aren’t mocking anyone (well except maybe actors themselves) so why not have it? It looks amazing and every scene from the trailer was gold, including the classic war movie music and helicopter flyovers. I have nothing bad to say about this trailer and as long as the rest of the movie is just as funny I won’t be dissapointed.
